Veterans Memorial Highways

FOUR NEW WAR VETERANS MEMORIAL HIGHWAYS (2015 -2016):

Expanding on its success with the border-to-border WWII Veterans Historic Highway (18 signs on 325 miles of US 97/SR 126) and Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway (17 signs on 377 miles of Interstate 84), the Bend Heroes Foundation, of which Mr. Maxwell is a director, drafted and requested legislation by the Oregon legislature honoring WWI Veterans on US 395, Korean War Veterans and Purple Heart recipients on I-5 and Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq War Veterans on US 101. The Purple Heart Trail (PHT) on Oregon’s 308 mile long Interstate 5 links PHTs on California’s and Washington’s I-5 thereby creating the first Purple Heart Trail across America in any direction. The Persian Gulf, Afghanistan and Iraq Veterans Memorial  Highway is the first border-to-border highway of its kind in our nation honoring our youngest combat veterans. Veterans will raise all the funds to pay Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to fabricate and install at least 32 signs on the 4 new highways. Completes Mr. Maxwell’s vision to honor Oregon’s 480,000 war veterans with prominent signage on 6 border-to-border highways in Oregon.

OREGON AS A PURPLE HEART STATE:

In a proclamation, the Oregon Legislature approved Mr. Maxwell’s request to designate Oregon as a “Purple Heart State”.

WORLD WAR II VETERANS HISTORIC HIGHWAY (2009-2012):

The Bend Hoeroes Foundation, with the help of Mr. Maxwell, drafted legislation for the Oregon legislature designating 325 miles of US 97 and SR 126 as the WWII VETERANS HISTORIC HIGHWAY honoring WWII Veterans and informing travelers of the 8 vital WWII training sites along those highways. The Bend Heroes Foundation managed the installation of 18 signs at no expense to tax payers.

VIETNAM VETERANS MEMORIAL HIGHWAY (2013-2014):

The Bend Heroes Foundation, with the help of Mr. Maxwell, partnered with the Oregon State Council, Vietnam Veterans of America and drafted legislation for the Oregon legislature to designate all 377 miles of I-84 in Oregon as the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Highway. The Bend Heroes Foundation and Mr. Maxwell, managed the installation of 17 signs along I-84 during 2014 by ODOT and at no expense to taxpayers.
